They said "Wouldn't it be nice if there was an Avengers book out there that looked like what was going on in the movies, but didn't just retell the story that's going on in the movies?" You know, being on the creative committee for Marvel movies, I'm very aware of what's going on and how awesome it is and what's going to happen. You know, it was an interesting proposition. We came up with a story that very specifically needs this cast to come together to fight the fight that they can't fight themselves. It is in continuity, but it is using most of the movie cast. Avengers Assemble is a new book by me and Mark Bagley. IGN: Can you tell us the basic premise and how this is going to be different from other Avengers titles – ongoing right now and ones from the past? Bendis: Um, that's a lot of questions! On top of that, they didn't really do much in the story, didn't make many decisions that would allow them to show who they were, so they were not very distinguishable. ![]() ![]() Unfortunately, the writing took away from both. The characters did not seem too different from each other, because they all spoke with the same voice and used the same flowery language. I also liked getting to know the characters one after the other. I wish we would have learned more about that. It took a lot away from the story, which could have been told in have the pages and, if you took away all the overuse of language, was unfortunately not that exciting after all.Which makes me sad, because I did like the premise and the worldbuilding was super interesting. I found this very distracting and, frankly, unnecessary. Especially the verbs, adjectives and adverbs.
